Account Engineer

Affiliated FM Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an Account Engineer in the Toronto office. Joining an office with a growing diverse book of manufacturing and non-manufacturing risks, the successful candidate will work in a fast paced business environment.

Through close teamwork with Affiliated Production Underwriters and an Engineering Assistant you will be involved in the selection of new accounts as well handle the engineering responsilities for a book of existing accounts.

Duties will include candidate activity as well as some focused engineering visits on existing business.Specific site activity will
account for approximately 20% of the responsibilities, with some overnight travel required. The successful candidate will work closely with existing clients, prospects and brokers to resolve engineering concerns and promote risk improvement to the benefit of the client and Affiliated FM. Effective communication and an ability to develop strong business relationships with the client and broker partner is paramount to Affiliated FM's success.

Employing our corporate engineering standards the individual will use their professional judgement to help achieve profitable results. This position will involve learning Affiliated FM's policy coverages and maintaining an understanding of our market environment. As the primary/direct contact with existing Insureds as well as prospects, he or she will be required to effectively ask questions and listen to the client to understand their business, communicate hazards, achieve solutions and generally work to foster long term mutually beneficial relationships.

Responsibilities also include the allocation and management of both internal and external engineering resources to obtain risk information for underwriting and professional consulting.

Ongoing training and career development are progressive elements of this position.

This position requires an individual with an engineering degree/engineering background and a minimum of 3 years field engineering experience.

A strong candidate will have exposure to diverse industrial and commercial occupancies. Utilizing this experience and gained knowledge to confidently dicuss risk hazards and their effects on various aspects of the client's business.

Assets to this position is an ability to quickly identify qualiity of risk and develop risk improvement solutions which have the potential to align a client with the Affiliated FM customer profile.

Must have sound communication and presentation skills, along with an ability to work in a team environment.

The successful candidate will be self motivated with time management, problem solving, decision making and relationship skills, as well as a working knowledge of MS Office products.
