This position is responsible for being the primary point of contact in the Controllers’ group for a variety of processes, both financial and system related. As new regulatory requirements or organizational opportunities arise, this position works with others to understand the impact of the new rules or requirements on financial reporting and identifies the effects on the Controllers department practices and procedures. The position requires understanding of the organization’s systems, front-end processes, and working knowledge of current technology advances to evaluate the impact of new initiatives on financial reporting in the Controllers unit. This position solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on financial reporting produced from PeopleSoft General Ledger (GL).
Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting
Professional certification (CPA, CMA) and/or master's degree preferred
5-10+ years experience of general accounting/financial reporting experience (preferably insurance industry experience)
Advanced knowledge of GAAP general accounting principles and practices and/or SAP with technical specialization in one or more areas
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Capable of balancing several deliverables and shifting priorities as needed
Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Demonstrated project management skills; ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently (with limited supervision) in a demanding, fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with financial systems and standard software applications (e.g. PeopleSoft; Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word)
