This position is open to candidates seeking remote opportunities that are open to travel to Headquarters located in Johnston, RI on a quarterly or monthly basis dependent on business needs.  Must be willing to work EST hours based on business needs. 

Overview / Responsibilities

We are hiring a GIS Developer/Lead to join our team.  A qualified candidate for this position is a senior software engineer with a strong background in geographic information systems looking to enhance their technical skills and grow as a technical leader. 

The GIS Developer/Lead is a senior software engineer who leads and mentors in the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of scalable GIS web-based applications. Individuals holding this position are expected to be thought leaders who lead a product team from technical and delivery perspectives as well as work independently as a member of the team. They ensure corporate standards and best practices are followed, and mentor other team members to ensure they work effectively.

Individuals in this position play a lead role in building solutions which involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies, and tools and must ensure that technologies used align with enterprise-wide technical architecture and ensure consistency across products.  Solutions must be focused on a commitment to industry standards and be scalable, observable, maintainable and resilient.

The GIS Developer/Lead demonstrates personal accountability and ensures successful team outcomes by proactively identifying and mitigating delivery impediments, dependencies, and risks.  They also support quality efforts within the team in partnership with Solution and Test Architects.

As a GIS Developer/Lead you bring:

Specific responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Help the development team to resolve technical issues and advance technical risks
  • Make final code-level technical design decisions grounded in industry standards and design patterns to be followed by the development team
  • Lead technical design sessions and refinement ceremonies, coordinate inter-sprint technical dependencies, and represent the development team during PI planning
  • Perform code reviews for code quality and security standards compliance based
  • Review automated tests for completion, coverage, and necessary complexity
  • Collaborate with CI/CD resources to ensure the completion of automated deployment pipelines and creation of a robust release promotion strategy
  • Perform disaster recovery planning for the solution – identify components, formulate the plan, and provide necessary team members resources for disaster recovery

Qualifications:

  Qualifications:

  •  5+ years’ experience developing GIS applications with ESRI products
  • Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Server product suite (10.8 and up) and strong knowledge of ArcGIS Server client APIs
  • Strong relational database experience, Postgres and SQL Server a plus
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript/HTML5/CSS3
  • Experience with publishing maps to ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience with ArcGIS Workflow Manager / JTX
  • Experience with ArcGIS JavaScript SDK and web app builder
  • Proficient in Python, ArcPy, and ArcGIS API for Python
  • Proficient in Geoprocessing application with customization, GIS application upgrade
  • Extensive knowledge in ESRI Product suite, ArcGIS Server, Portal, ArcGIS Online
  • Good practice and design concept of GIS application architecture, GIS application lifecycle management
  • Experience in an Agile environment using agile methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience in API design, RESTful Web Services, Architecture, and Web standards
  • Experience with data migration and data manipulation with safe FME or other database ETL tools
  • Experience in performance tuning SDE Database

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of ESRI implementation on Azure cloud
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with GIS industry
  • Hands on experience with the insurance domain in the GIS space
  • Analyzing, identifying, and resolving application performance challenges
  • Knowledge of unit, system, integration, and performance testing strategies
  • Understanding of branching strategies and experience with version control tools, preferably GIT
  • Experience with C#, .NET, and ASP.NET
  • Experience with AI/ML and computer vision methodologies
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and containerization a plus

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related subject area; or equivalent work experience and training.

Advanced degree and certification are desirable!

We are considering Mid and Senior Level candidates for this role. The range is $91,400 to $149,500. The range is representative of the hiring salary for the role. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
