The Staff VP, Employee Communications will report directly to the VP, Employee Communications and manage the daily operations of the employee communications function, including HR Communications, establishing and managing the Globalport news desk, and design and implementation of key programs. The role will also be responsible for design/redesign of employee communications processes, as well as defining/reporting suitable metrics and budget tracking/reporting. The Staff VP will also chair the content and standards governance body for the function.

The Staff VP will also be involved in the development of the global employee communications strategy, ensuring cohesive messaging across programs and developing multichannel content programs, to educate and engage the employee population worldwide with the vision and future direction of the company. The role will also have lead responsibility for key employee events including company-wide kick-off and mid-year meetings, managed in conjunction with the events/multimedia team and in collaboration with the VP Employee Communications to ensure CEO communications objectives are being met.

The incumbent is expected to be a strong second-in-command for the organization, capable of deputizing for the VP, Employee Communications. Much of the work of this role will be dependent on cross-functional collaboration to ensure success, as well as ensuring that perspectives of key stakeholders are included in content program development.

Strategy: Develop the content strategy for engaging employees with the company’s vision and strategy, and creating sense of community across a global organization of employees working in a mix of models (in-office, hybrid, remote), including a portion of the population with no desktop access. 

Implementation and delivery: Plan and execute key annual employee and manager events, including content development. Partner with events/multimedia team to ensure projects are correctly define, briefed and supported, with clear roles and responsibilities, and metrics reporting in place. Design communications programs to implement key strategies and drive execution globally.

Research and testing: Lead efforts to better understand our key audiences, including audience research and persona development. Pilot and test communications channels that are new to the organization, being sure to meet the organization where it is at in terms of change readiness  

Governance and management: Chair the content governance council, defining calendaring tools and ensuring integrated editorial calendar is effective in scheduling content release across the organization in ways that are streamlined and avoid overwhelm.

Operational: Define, evolve, and document key processes that ensure smooth operation of the employee communications function. Define and establish relevant metrics and reporting. Use insights from metrics to adjust content strategy and programs. Manage vendors as appropriate, track expenditures and manage budget reporting. Lead team of up to 4 permanent staff and contingent support.    


  • 4-year College degree/Bachelor's required, Master’s in Communications or similar preferred

  • 10+ years leading strategic programs in an employee communications capacity. Corporate background.

  • Global experience preferred.

  • Five years minimum direct people management experience

  • Communications program design/management 

  • Ability to operate in and navigate a matrixed, dynamic and rapidly changing environment

  • Strong understanding of global/cultural differences impacting communications a must – global experience preferred

  • Demonstrated results building and sustaining complex cross-functional relationships

  • Demonstrated track record of building new processes, frameworks and programs, executing and delivering results Strong communicator, written and verbal, ability to influence and manage key stakeholders

  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated the ability to create and execute strategic programs and lead, motivate and develop a new team.

  • They should have a passion for employee communications, and an understanding of how employee communications intersect with other communications disciplines in order to ensure integrated planning and execution where applicable.

  • Must have strong operational skill set, with the ability to define and drive new processes, influence stakeholders, and assess and manage change impacts.

  • He/she/they must have a globally inclusive mindset, and ensure content programs and activities are developed with international audiences in mind.

  • Must be comfortable stepping into a greenfield opportunity that requires calm and focus to align rapidly moving perspectives, and be comfortable in dealing with rapid turnarounds and short deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge of employee communications practices and trends is needed, as is the ability to perform in an organization that is going through a process of modernizing its practices.

  • Must be results-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects at any one time.

  • Must have strong executive presence and poise.
