This position is responsible for conducting risk based, loss control focused, in-service inspections of boilers and pressure vessels. This is a resident position located in west-central Michigan, ideally in the Grand Rapids area or nearby.  The position would be responsible for jurisdictional inspections at FM Global client sites in the western half of Michigan not including the Upper Peninsula but may involve approximately 5% travel outside that area. The inspections are conducted in accordance with applicable jurisdictional laws and regulations, The National Board Inspection Code, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and FM Global procedures and standards.


Education:  Depending on an individual's experience and other factors, the inspector will have a BS in Engineering, an Associate Degree from a two-year technical school, or a high school diploma. The individual should have a National Board (NB) In-service Commission. Additional NB commissions or endorsements, and certificates of competency in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or New York are a plus.

Experience:  The essential experience for this position is that required by the current National Board rules for commissioned inspectors in order to obtain the in-service NB commission.  Experience in general boiler and pressure vessel construction, maintenance, and inspection, mechanical and electrical equipment, understanding of maintenance management systems and good understanding of NDE methods and results are necessary. Experience with Jurisdiction Online software is a plus.
