Responsibilities - External:
The person in this position will be responsible for planning, conducting and directing testing and analysis of electronic equipment used primarily in fire protection and explosion prevention systems submitted for FM Approval. He or she will work in FM Global’s Engineering and Research facility in Norwood, MA, with occasional travel to the state of the art facility in West Glocester, RI, USA.
In addition to product certification projects, the person will be involved with the FM Approvals Central Station Program. This is a scheme in which FM provides certification oversight of companies that provide installation / maintenance of fire alarm systems, central station monitoring services, or both. This will involve occasional travel to examine these customers on a periodic basis and will further involve coordinating the effort of others performing the same examination services.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the development of proposals, preparation of test plans, supervision of tests, project management, documentation of results, preparation of written reports and other complex tasks associated with third party certification.
The working environment includes both the office and laboratory. Overnight travel, to consult with customers, attend technical conferences and to conduct and monitor tests at test facilities, is typically less than 25%.
Qualifications - External:
BS in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years experience with fire alarm equipment.
Familiarity with associated codes and standards (e.g. NFPA, FM Approval Standards & ANSI) is desired.
Ideally, the candidate will be certified to NICET Level 2, or be willing to pursue and obtain it.
The successful candidate should have demonstrated project management skills, superior written and verbal communication skills, and computer proficiency with programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Candidate must have the ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and the ability to understand and follow instructions.
