The Battery Testing Intern will work with Electrochemical Impedance spectroscopy (EIS) testing of small form factor Li-ion batteries. Develop tools to analyze EIS test results.
Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is a very powerful, fast and non-intrusive method to gain information about electrochemical systems, for e.g., batteries and battery packs. EIS is a swept frequency technique for evaluating the internal electrochemical and electrical properties of a battery under test. This method characterizes the impedance of a battery by stimulating it with a small amplitude AC signal. Sweeping the stimulus AC signal frequency provides a plot of the battery’s response revealing a composite view of the battery’s internal properties including interconnections, deterioration of plates, electrodes, or electrolyte.
Responsibilities
The intern would be required to study the EIS test equipment and details about conducting the test. He/she would develop a method to automate the data extraction from the test equipment. This would included developing a program (MATLAB or python) to translate EIS test data to equivalent circuit using established models (circuit components to include SOH and internal impedance). Additional program capabilities would be needed to generate data displays, including multiple plots to facilitate detailed comparisons.
Qualifications
Graduate student pursuing MS/Phd majoring in electrical engineering.
Proficiency in MATLAB and/or python is required.
Experience in conducting lab experiments is preferred.
Internship period: 4 months, full time, onsite. (Some flexibility possible to adjust student’s needs).
The hiring range for this position is $22.00 to $25.00 per hour. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
