Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to conduct experimental tasks which contribute to the loss prevention solutions in the area of material flammability and fire dynamics under the supervision of senior research scientists.
The job responsibilities include:
Design, fabricate and maintain mechanical/electrical test apparatus and instrumentations for reliable measurement of temperature, velocity, heat flux, energy release, etc.
Perform scientific experiments on material flammability, fire dynamics and battery safety to obtain accurate and reliable data
Work with senior scientists to conduct data analysis and problem solving
Develop specific technical procedures and recommend purchase of necessary components, equipment and supplies related to assigned projects
Effectively manage projects related to lab experiments
Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related fields, or an Associate degree with 3 years of related work experience in experimental labs.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical principles necessary to conduct scientific experiment
- Fundamental technical knowledge of combustion, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, applied mathematics
- Capable of conducting hands-on laboratory tasks with minimal supervision
- Capable of designing and fabricating test apparatus as required
- Computer literacy - data acquisition software, programing using Python or MATLAB, experience with computer design software such as Solid works, AutoCAD
- Knowledge of personal and area safety in the working environment
- Good written and verbal communication skills!
- Demonstrated history of strong performance of teamwork, and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability of providing innovative solutions to lab problems
