Responsibilities:
This position will report to the manager overseeing the Research Campus Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and work alongside researchers, engineers, supervisors, and technicians to support daily site operations. The working environment consists of both office and laboratory/industrial spaces. Core working hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, some days may require the candidate to work outside of core hours (before 7am or after 3:30pm) to meet business needs. This position requires the candidate to be on-site full time. Primary responsibilities for this position include:
The Engineer will support Research, FM Approvals, and campus support teams in the daily operation of the Research Campus industrial control systems (ICS).
Systems Engineering – Under supervision from the manager, the engineer will be responsible for the maintenance and development of control systems, selecting appropriate components, detailing schematic and P&ID diagrams, producing and maintaining system documentation, programming controllers (PLC,ICS, DCS,RTU), programming the process visualization (HMI/SCADA), Alarm management, developing databases for archiving/displaying historical OSIsoft PI data, commissioning the control systems, and PID loop tuning.
System Operator - The Engineer will act as first level escalation support for the control system technicians in setting up and restoring equipment to operational readiness.
The Controls Engineer would assist with design, detail and implementation of Operation Technology (OT) infrastructure, IT/OT integration using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, DH+, etc.).
The Engineer will be assigned project work based on the current needs of the business, and will be expected to execute these projects with limited supervision. The majority of project work will include ICS related disciplines, however project work in other disciplines may be assigned based on need.

An BS degree is preferred in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field. Relevant work experience and technical certifications considered as an alternate. The ideal candidate shall possess 5-10+ years of professional experience.
Experience with Data Acquisition systems and/or Industrial Control Systems. Knowledge of programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text is required.
A background in Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix PLC platforms utilizing RS Logix 5000 software, FactoryTalk View, or Schneider StruxureWare packages is preferred.
Experience with Industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, Device Net, Profibus, BACnet, motor control systems, variable frequency drives, and electrical MCC distribution systems.
Advanced knowledge of DCS systems and implementation of safety interlocks and controls over various platforms.
Strong project management skills with ability to lead technical developments in cross-functional teams. Self-starter; excellent management and organizational skills.
Effectively manages change and can quickly adapt to competing priorities.
Experience with electronics and wiring systems is preferred.
Desire to thrive in a team environment.
Skilled with AutoCAD, LabView, Microsoft Office Applications or similar (Word and Excel at a minimum), and adept with computer usage
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk, use ladders and man lifts to access equipment in a laboratory environment which could include hot, sooty, and wet surfaces. Proper PPE will be provided for lab conditions.
Additional desirable experience related to the position:
Experience in industrial production settings, focusing on instrumentation and data gathering.
Instrument/Sensor calibrations.
Statistical data analysis.
AVEVA Predictive Analytics, OSIsoft PI vision programing.
Origin Lab – Data Graphing and Analysis.
Compensation Grade and Job Title will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and technical skillset.
The hiring range for this position dependent on final grade and title is $76,200 to $159,400 USD. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
