Summary:

The Senior Learning Specialist position requires a technically proficient risk engineer who is also a good communicator, presenter and has the ability to transfer technical knowledge to an audience. This person will be involved in multiple technical learning programs with varying degrees of complexity; therefore, they also need to demonstrate creativity and flexibility in handling complex and innovative curricula, programs, workshops, courses, and materials for instructor-led, virtual, online, and blended environments targeting a global audience.

The audience will include internal employees, typically field, and account engineers but will occasionally contribute to client, brokers, and partner training.

The Senior Learning Specialist will lead and facilitate at least one of the key engineering programs at the Academy, liaising and cooperating with staff engineering personnel, operations engineers, learning innovators and instructional designers for the development. This person will also be responsible for the execution and regular updates of the Programs and Courses he/she will lead.

Schedule & Location:

This is a full-time on-site position that can be in any of the FM Global offices, Monday through Friday, with extensive travels to Norwood, MA. Considering this position is focused on the CEP Boiler and Machinery (B&M) Training Program, managing and help delivering it will require from 12 to 16 weeks in Norwood per year, already considering eventual support to other Programs.


  • Program Management and facilitation of the three levels of CEP B&M.
  • Support and facilitation of the CEP FH programs and Norwood-based client events.
  • Understand the current knowledge and skill level of program participants to ensure delivery of programs meets and exceeds learner expectations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the engineering assessment, quantification, and mitigation options as well as the latest engineering research findings to be able to prepare exceptional and industry-leading engineering consultants.  
  • Team with Learning Experience Designers and other Learning Experience Facilitators to create an exceptional experience for learners.
  • Develop and hone presentation skills to elicit optimal learner participation.
  • Facilitate ongoing knowledge management among learners.
  • Advise on the design and development of new content or repurposing of existing to ensure relevance.
  • Participate in development tests of learning content and provide feedback as appropriate to designers and developers.
  • Team with SMEs to plan the delivery of programs, agreeing respective roles and handoffs.
  • Partner with Learning Experience Innovators and Designers to leverage technology solutions that will enhance the learner experience and increase adoption of learning content.
  • Deliver programs consistently in accordance with program objectives and seek evaluation and feedback.
  • Keep abreast of latest learning and development trends and best practices by networking and professional development.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Work Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Field Engineer, Consultant Engineer, Account Engineer, or related work experience is required.
  • Boiler and Machinery (B&M) or Cross-trained formation is highly preferred.
  • Relevant industry experience, especially on any B&M related topics such as maintenance, operations, processes, manufacturing etc. is highly preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical engineering knowledge on a variety of industry hazards including specialty risks, climate risks, and equipment risks.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering systems and software used by our consultant engineers to perform their jobs.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork with diverse colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary and global environment.
  • Very strong learning facilitation skills in an active learning classroom both in-person and virtual.
  • Strong personal accountability, decision quality, change agent, customer focus and growth mindset.
  • Strong project management, planning and organizing skills with ability to perform with simultaneous initiatives and a degree of ambiguity.
  • Ability to work with a high performing team in a fast-paced, complex environment with minimum supervision and aggressive timelines.
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor others.

The hiring range for this position is $110,900.00-$159,400.00 annually. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
